Attention! If the heating system has just been turned on or the engine has just been running, the spark plugs may be very hot.
- disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery;
- on the 1.9 liter engine, remove the engine cover by pulling out the latches on the right and top side;
- on the 2.0L engine, remove the engine cover by turning the clips 90°;
- unscrew the nut of the power terminal of the corresponding candle;
- remove the spark plug wire from the terminal and unscrew the spark plug from the cylinder head.
Check glow plugs in the following order:
1) inspect each candle and make sure there is no mechanical damage;
2) if the candles are in good condition, check for an internal break with a lamp or an ohmmeter;
3) apply 12 volts to the spark plug and check that the spark plug heats up evenly and for the specified amount of time, while doing the following:
- clamp the candle in a vise, as the candle is red-hot;
- power to the candle must be supplied through a fuse to avoid trouble in the event of a short circuit;
- after checking, let the candle cool for a few minutes;
- a serviceable candle should quickly glow red-hot; if the candle heats up for too long or it is not the tip that is heated, but the central part of the candle, this indicates a malfunction.
Install glow plugs in the following order:
- apply a little anti-seize copper compound to the threads of the candle;
- screw the spark plug into the cylinder head and tighten to the required torque;
- connect the power wire to the candle and secure it with a nut and washer;
- install the engine cover.
