Examination
Raise the car so that the wheels are off.
Make sure that the friction of the brake pads begins after tightening the lever one click.
Make sure that the normal travel of the lever does not exceed 5 clicks.
If the check showed incorrect results:
- check the correct laying of all cables;
- make sure the cables are not pinched (poor engagement of cables or sheaths);
- make sure that all parts and assemblies of the parking brake mechanism are free to move in both directions.
Adjust the parking brake.
Adjustment
Parking brake:
1 - cover;
2 - nut for adjusting the tension of the parking brake cables.
Remove the cover (1).
Attention. Check the correct passage of the cables under the bottom of the car.
Set the parking brake lever to its lowest position.
Press lightly on the brake pedal (repeat the previous operation three times).
Pull the parking brake lever 4-5 times sharply.
Rear brakes:
A - drum brakes;
B - disc brakes;
2 - nut for adjusting the tension of the parking brake cables.
Set the parking brake lever to its lowest position. Remove rear wheels and brake drums.
Using a shim kit, measure in the area «A» distance between lever and stop.
Turn the nut (2), to get a gap less than or equal to 1 mm (in the zone «A»).
Remove, without tightening, fastenings of brake drums (depending on configuration).
Move the parking brake lever several times (8 times).
Set the parking brake lever to its lowest position.
Reinstall the removed parts.
Check the effectiveness of the parking brake.
