For certain weather, it is important to choose the right ratio between the amount of coolant and water. Do not add water to the engine. Freezing resistance is reduced, both with insufficient and excessive amounts of coolant in the mixture.
Note. The temperature of the coolant with the engine running reaches very high values. If you need to add coolant when the engine is at operating temperature, open the expansion tank cap slowly and carefully to release excess pressure.
On vehicles equipped with a diesel particulate filter, the electric fan can run for approximately 10 minutes after the engine has stopped.
Attention. A new car is filled with liquid that does not freeze at temperatures down to about -35°C.
The need for frequent topping up of coolant indicates a malfunction in the system. It should be identified and eliminated as soon as possible. Be aware that engine overheating can damage (cracking) cylinder heads.
