The speed sensor is located at the transmission input shaft, which is connected to the torque converter turbine.
The sensor sends information to the transmission ECU about the input speed to the transmission.
This information allows the transmission ECU to:
- determine the degree of slip in the torque converter (difference between engine mode and gearbox input shaft speed);
- decide on a gear change (ECU).
The sensor consists of a winding and a magnetic core.
The information sent to the transmission computer is an AC voltage that varies with the speed of the transmission input shaft (frequency variation).
Supply voltage: 12 V.
