2. Close the hood, "torpedo" and front seats with polyethylene, so as not to damage them during operation. Remove wiper blades and arms (see chapter 10, section 26).
3. If the old glass is broken, remove its fragments from the seal. Remove seal.
4. Remove the metal strip from the seal. It consists of 3 sections connected to each other in three places.
Slide the upper middle seam attachment to the side and carefully pull the strip out of the rubber moulding, being careful not to bend it. Go to the bottom corner seam and remove the section. Repeat the above procedure on the second side section and then remove the bottom section (see pictures).
5. If the old glass is intact, at this stage it must be pressed out of the opening flange. You will need an assistant for this job. Sit on the left seat and rest your feet (put a rag under your feet) at the corner of the windshield. Gradually increase the pressure on the glass. At this time, an assistant, located outside, should pry off the glass with a seal with a blunt screwdriver or knife and carefully pull it out of the opening flange. Work slowly and don't rush. Once the top and edges of the glass have been pulled out of the flange, the glass with seal can be carefully removed from the machine.
6. Inspect the opening flange to make sure it is not damaged. Clean it from traces of old sealant. Clean and inspect the seal. If it is damaged or hardened, it should be replaced.
7. Fill the inner groove of the seal with fresh sealant and install the seal on the new glass, remembering that the groove for the metal strip must be on the outside.
8. You will need a piece of twine strong enough to run along the outer groove of the seal so that the ends of the twine overlap by about 1 m. Set the twine into the grooves so that the ends overlap at the bottom center and hang down freely.
9. Install the glass with a seal on the lower flange of the opening and bring the free ends of the twine into the cabin. To facilitate installation, you can lubricate the seal with soapy water.
10. The assistant should be outside and put pressure on the glass. At this time, you begin to pull on one end of the twine to raise the seal to the flange. Gradually pull the twine until the glass is halfway on one side of the flange, after which you should start pulling on the other end of the twine. Continue to do this until all the twine is pulled into the cabin, and the glass, together with the sealant, fits into the opening flange. If necessary, you can guide the glass into the flange with a screwdriver.
11. Apply a suitable sealant between the seal and the outside of the flange around the entire opening.
12. Replace the metal strip, starting with its bottom section. Reinstall the side sections and slide the retainer onto the top seam. Clean off excess sealant and reinstall wiper arms and brushes.
13. Stick on the new glass a new rear-view mirror support bracket (special 2-component adhesive required). Installation dimensions are shown in B / fig. 11.13. Install the rear view mirror on the support and fix it with a plastic clip.
