2. There is no strictly defined procedure for removing power steering from a gasoline powered vehicle.
3. Loosen the wheel nuts or bolts. Raise and support the front of the machine and remove the front wheels.
4. Unscrew the nuts of the ball bearings, standing at the ends of the transverse steering rods. Disconnect the bearings from the pivot pin arms using a special ball joint extractor.
5. Pull out the gearshift rocker pin (see B/fig. 12.108).
6. Remove the clip-stud and disconnect the gear selection rod from its ball joint (see B/fig.12.109).
7. Remove the 2 nuts securing the steering column flexible coupling to the steering gear worm flange. Slightly move the flexible coupling column upwards.
8. Remove the 2 bolts securing the steering gear to the crosspiece.
9. Remove the steering mechanism, taking care not to damage the rubber boots.
10. Installation of the steering mechanism is carried out in the reverse order. Pay attention to the following points:
- A. Preliminarily adjust the position of both transverse steering rods, as shown in B / fig. 12.110.
- b. Apply some molybdenum grease to the shift ball joints.
- V. Tighten all fasteners to the correct torque. Fix the flexible coupling and ball joints on the ends of the steering rods with new nuts.
- d. Upon completion, have a specialist check the alignment of the front wheels.
