The engine gets very hot
(check if the temperature gauge is giving correct readings)
- Low coolant level (e.g. due to leakage)
- Broken or slipping drive belt on coca
- Low engine oil or wrong brand of oil
- Faulty thermostat
- Fan clutch not working properly
- Faulty water pump
- Internal or external clogging of the radiator core
- Faulty valve in the radiator cap
- The new engine hasn't run in yet (slow down)
- Sticky brakes (see chapter 8)
- Ignition timing too late or automatic ignition timing correction does not work (see chapter 4)
- Too lean mixture (see chapter 3)
- Broken cylinder head gasket
- Deformed or cracked cylinder head or liner (cartridge cases)
The engine does not warm up well

External coolant leak
- Too much cooling bone in the system (leakage due to thermal expansion
- Hoses damaged or loose
- Leaking water pump or thermostat gasket
- Faulty valve in the radiator cap
- Leak water pump seals
- Damaged radiator core
- Damaged heater core
Internal coolant leak
- Broken cylinder head gasket (coolant enters the exhaust gases or the combustible mixture in the combustion chambers)
- Deformed or cracked cylinder head or liner (cartridge cases)
- Cracks in the intake manifold.
