1. On the latest models, the manual priming pump has a rubber "pear" and located on the right side of the engine compartment (see d/photo 4.59).
2. When squeezing "pears" fuel is forced into the fuel filter housing and then passes through the double valve. The valve directs the fuel first in the direction of the injection pump. Excess fuel (along with the fuel returned from the injectors) returns to the fuel tank.
3. For pumping the system (e.g. after removal and installation of injection pump) turn on the ignition and squeeze a few times "pear" to force trapped air back into the fuel tank.
4. Bleed the high pressure side and fuel injector lines while cranking the engine with the starter. This process can be accelerated by slightly loosening the fuel pipe fittings at each injector in turn, so that when the engine is cranked, fuel flows out of them. Keep in mind that the pressure of the fuel can be quite large - before loosening the fitting, it should be wrapped with a rag. Upon completion of bleeding, tighten the fittings and clean up spilled fuel.
