1. Cylinder head bolts on early models (until September 1986), which do not need to be tightened to a certain angle, have a conventional hex head and a smooth body.
2. Cylinder head bolts on models since 1986 that are subject to angle tightening also have a hex head but have a helical groove in the upper body. The difference between the bolts is shown in D / photo 26.39A. As previously stated, these bolts and their washers must be replaced after each removal. If necessary, new types of bolts can be installed instead of the old ones. Bolts of this type, used on XUD7T engines, have a different length and are marked with a dot on the bolt head.
3. In 1989, hex head bolts were replaced with Togh bolts. These bolts tighten to a greater angle than hex head bolts (see Specifications and a photo).
4. Tox head bolts do not need to be replaced unless they have stretched too far. Maximum allowable bolt length (from the bottom of the head to the end of the bolt) listed in Specifications. Bolt washers must be replaced in any case.
