Toothed timing belt drives camshaft, high pressure fuel pump (injection pump) and water pump. The tappets are located between the camshaft and the valves, and valve clearances are adjusted using special washers. The camshaft rests on three bearings made directly in the cylinder head.
The crankshaft rotates in 5 conventional type main bearings (with interchangeable liners). The axial movement of the crankshaft is controlled by thrust washers located on both sides of the N 2 main bearing.
The pistons are almost the same weight and are equipped with floating piston pins that are held in place by circlips.
The oil pump is chain driven from the front of the crankshaft. On some models with a 1.9 liter engine, an oil cooler is installed.

The XUD engine has undergone some changes. The most significant of these was the introduction of a turbocharged version. The design of a turbo engine basically differs little from that of a conventional engine, but it has improved crankshaft, pistons and connecting rods.
