2. On early models with a Roto-Diesel fuel filter, unscrew the pump plunger.
3. Turn on the ignition to energize the shut-off solenoid and actuate the pump on the fuel filter until resistance is felt. Tighten the pump plunger if necessary.
4. Press the gas pedal all the way down, turn the ignition key to the "M" and wait until the glow plug warning light goes out.
5. Start the engine. Perhaps the first time it will take a little longer, because. In order for the engine to start, it is necessary to bleed the fuel system.
6. After the engine starts, leave it to run at fast idle. Check that the low oil pressure warning light goes out and inspect the engine for oil, fuel, and coolant leaks.
Models up to September 1986
7. If everything is in order, let the engine run for 10 minutes at 3000 rpm and then turn off the ignition and let the engine cool down for at least 3.5 hours.
8. Remove the cap from the expansion tank of the cooling system in order to remove residual pressure, and then reinstall the cap.
9. One by one, in the correct sequence, loosen the cylinder head bolts by 90°and then, again in the correct sequence, tighten them to the final torque indicated in Specifications.
All models
10. If you have replaced many parts with new ones, the engine should be treated as new and run at reduced speeds and loads for the first 1000 km. After the initial run, it is recommended to change the engine oil and oil filter.
11. Synchronization of the operation of the injection pump and its operation in idle mode must be checked and adjusted, as indicated in chapter 3.
