2. You will need a lift to raise the front of the car so that the engine and gearbox can be pulled out through the bottom.
3. Drain engine oil and coolant. Drain the oil from the gearbox. When finished, replace the drain plugs.
4. Remove the battery and its pad.
5. Remove the air cleaner with its tubes.
6. Disconnect the upper and lower radiator hoses. It is advisable to remove the radiator as well, having previously disconnected the wiring from the thermal switch and the low coolant level sensor.
7. Disconnect the throttle cable from the carburetor.
8. Disconnect from the carburetor and plug the fuel return hose. Disconnect the fuel supply hose from the pump and plug it too. Be prepared for fuel to spill when disconnecting hoses.
9. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose.
10. Disconnect and plug heater hoses.
11. Remove the bolts securing the ignition wire bracket to the camshaft cover. Remove the distributor cover with wires and bracket.
12. Remove the distributor low voltage connector retaining plate and disconnect the connector. Set the plate in place and grab it to hold it.
13. Pull the diagnostic socket out of its bracket and disconnect its ground wire.
14. Remove the sensor v.m.t. (fastened with a clamping bolt) from flywheel housing (see photo).
15. On models with power steering, remove the power steering hydraulic tank from the front panel and hang it on the generator. Disconnect the pipes from the power steering valve and plug them. Tie the tubes next to the distributor. Plug the pipe fittings on the valve.
16. Disconnect the speedometer cable from the gearbox (see photo).
17. On manual transmission models, disconnect the clutch cable and reversing light switch harness.
18. On models with an automatic transmission, disconnect the gearbox cooling system hoses from the oil cooler. Disconnect the shift cable and reverse light switch/starter inhibitor harness.
19. On all models, disconnect the wiring from the two cooling system switches on the intake manifold (remember the colors of the wires so as not to mix them up when disconnecting).
20. Disconnect the wires from the generator.
21. Disconnect the wire from the oil pressure switch.
22. Disconnect the ground wire from the gearbox housing.
23. Disconnect the exhaust pipes from the manifold flange.
24. On models with a manual transmission, disconnect the ball joints of the gear lever mechanism (to disconnect the hinges, you can use a mounting or a large screwdriver). Where applicable, disconnect the reverse gear lock cable (on latest models).
25. To disconnect the drive shafts from the final drive, loosen the lower anti-roll bar links, pivot pins and steering ball joints on both sides. Also release the intermediate bearing by loosening its lock nuts and turning the fixing bolts a half turn (180°). Disconnect the left drive shaft by pulling the hub outward and then install the tool to hold the differential side gears in place. Remove the right drive shaft in the same way.
26. If the hubs cannot be retracted enough to disengage the drive shafts from the final drive, the drive shafts will have to be removed completely.
27. To turn out bolts and to remove the bottom support arm of the engine.
28. Connect to the two lifting lugs of the hoist motor. Depending on the design of the lift, it may be necessary to remove the hood cover.
29. Slightly raise the engine with the gearbox with a hoist so as to just take their weight off the pillows. Loosen top cushion bolts (one on each side). Be prepared for the fact that after removing the bolts, the engine with the box will shift slightly.
30. Lower the engine with the box down (through the engine compartment), being careful not to hit anything.
31. Raise the front of the car and pull the engine with the box through the bottom.
