General Description of ZF4 HP14 Automatic Transmission (Peugeot 305)

1. The automatic transmission has 4 forward gears and a reverse gear. 8 In order to save fuel, the torque converter is completely bypassed at the highest (4th) transmission and is partially bypassed in 3rd gear, which reduces losses due to torque converter slip.

2. Gear shifting occurs automatically depending on the speed and load of the engine. Downshift system provided (kick-down) for better acceleration when the gas pedal is fully depressed.

3. Instead of a conventional oil cooler, a type heat exchanger is used to cool the transmission fluid "coolant-oil", located on the side of the gearbox.
