Mode selector positions
Pic. 1.37. Positions of the selector of switching of modes of an automatic transmission
Switching modes of operation of the automatic transmission is carried out by moving the selector (pic. 1.37).
In this case, the position of the selector is displayed on the index on the instrument cluster:
- S - sports program;
- * - program of movement on snow;
- P — Park (parking) used to prevent the car from rolling in the parking lot and when starting the engine, while the parking brake can be turned on or off.
Attention! While the vehicle is moving, never move the selector to the position «R» or «R».
- R — Reverse (Reverse) reverse gear can only be engaged after the vehicle has come to a complete stop and the engine is idling.
- N — Neutral (neutral position) used when starting the engine and when parking the car simultaneously with the parking brake.
Note. If, while the vehicle is moving, the selector is accidentally moved to the position «N», before moving the lever to any forward position, release the accelerator pedal and reduce the engine speed to idling.
- D — Drive (Prolonged forward movement) for driving in automatic mode;
- M — Manual (Manual switching) for driving in manual shift mode.
Starting off
The engine can only be started when the control selector is in positions «N» or «R».
To transfer the selector to one of the driving positions with the vehicle stationary and the engine running, release the parking brake and simultaneously press the brake pedal.
Attention! When selecting a position when the vehicle is stationary, do not press the accelerator pedal.
Attention! With the engine running, when the selector is in any of the driving positions, hold the car by pressing the brake pedal, because even when the engine is idling, the transmission of torque to the wheels is not completely interrupted - the car «crawling». If one of the driving positions is selected while the vehicle is stationary, do not under any circumstances depress the accelerator pedal (and do not increase the fuel supply by hand from the engine compartment), otherwise the vehicle will start moving even if the parking brake is applied.
Before carrying out any work with the engine running, set the selector to the position «P» and apply the parking brake.
Automatic mode of operation
To automatically change four gears, move the mode selector to the position «D». The transmission will continuously select the gear that is best adapted to the driving conditions, depending on a number of parameters such as driving style, road profile and vehicle load.
Attention! Never move the mode selector to the position «N», if the car is still rolling. Never move the mode selector to «R» or «R», if the car is not stopped. Do not downshift to brake on slippery roads.
Forced downshift device («kick down»)
The device provides maximum acceleration of the vehicle under the given driving conditions. As soon as the force on the accelerator pedal exceeds a certain threshold value, depending on the speed and speed of movement, a shift to one of the lower gears takes place. Switching to the next higher gear will follow only when the maximum permissible value of the engine speed is reached.
Modes «Sports» And «Driving on snow»
The choice of mode is confirmed by a pointer on the instrument cluster.
Sports mode
Move the selector to position «D» and click on the button «S».
So-called «sports» the transmission program is selected when the accelerator pedal is controlled sharply enough. When choosing «sports» The program makes full use of the engine's power reserves due to some delay in upshifting.
Snow driving mode
This program makes starting easier and improves traction when traction is difficult.
Move the selector to position «D» and click on the button «028».
This program provides a smooth ride on slippery roads to improve traction and handling.
Note. You can switch back to auto-adaptive at any time (normal) program, for which press the buttons again «S» or «028» to exit the corresponding automatic transmission program.
Manual gear shift
Availability of sequential gear shifting mode (system «tiptronic») allows the driver to manually shift gears.
You can switch to the manual shift program both on a stationary vehicle and when it is moving, for which move the selector to the position «M».
When moving the selector forward (+) upshifts are sequentially switched on, and when moving back (-) - sequentially decreasing.
When the car accelerates, 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears are automatically engaged shortly before the engine reaches the maximum permissible speed.
If the driver shifts to a lower gear, the gearbox control unit will only engage this gear when there is no danger «twist» engine.
Features of work
Switching from one gear to another in manual mode occurs only when the vehicle speed matches the engine speed, otherwise the gearbox will immediately switch to automatic mode.
When the vehicle is stopped or driven at very low speed, the transmission automatically switches to «M».
When entering the manual shift mode of the program «S» («Sport») And «028» («Driving on snow») do not work.
Transmission malfunction
Any malfunctions in the gearbox are accompanied by a buzzer, as well as the appearance on the display of the inscription «Faulty automatic transmission» and flashing program indicators «Sport» And «Driving on snow» on the instrument cluster.
In this case, the box starts to work in emergency mode (only in 3rd gear). You may feel a noticeable bump when engaging reverse gear from «R» into position «R» or from «N» V «R» (however, this does not threaten to break the gearbox). Drive at a speed not exceeding 100 km/h (within the limits of the current Rules of the road).
Attention! Contact a Peugeot Dealership immediately to check that the automatic transmission is working. In the event of a battery failure, the inclusion of any gear from the position «R» will become impossible.
