These systems work with and complement the anti-lock braking system.
The ASR system optimizes the distribution of traction between the wheels to avoid wheel spin by influencing individual wheel brakes and engine performance. It also helps to improve the vehicle's directional stability during acceleration.
The ESP system automatically acts on individual wheel brakes and engine operation to return the vehicle to a predetermined trajectory in the event of a significant deviation of the actual trajectory from that set by the driver.
Disabling and enabling ASR/ESP systems
Sometimes, in particularly difficult driving conditions (starting off in mud, getting stuck in snow, driving on shaky ground, etc.), it becomes necessary to turn off the ASR and ESP systems so that the wheels, slipping, provide the car with traction.
Hit the switch «ESP OFF», located in the center of the instrument panel.
The indicator lamp inside the switch comes on, and the warning lamp on the instrument cluster is accompanied by a buzzer signal and the message «ASR/ESP systems disabled». From this point on, the ASR and ESP systems no longer have any effect on the operation of the engine.
The systems are reactivated automatically upon reaching a speed of 30 km / h or by pressing the switch button again.
ASR/ESP system health check
In the event of a malfunction of the ASR/ESP systems, the switch indicator lamp flashes, the warning lamp in the instrument cluster lights up and the buzzer sounds, and the message appears on the multifunction display «ASR/ESP system malfunctioning».
Attention! Contact a Peugeot Dealership to check if the system is working.
Attention! The ESP system is capable of providing additional safety in normal driving conditions. Its presence in the vehicle configuration should not encourage the driver to take unjustified risks and accelerate the car to excessive speeds.
The normal operation of the system is based on the obligatory observance of the manufacturer's requirements for the quality of tires and rims, brake system components, on-board electronics, as well as the quality of assembly work and maintenance at Peugeot service stations.
Note. If the vehicle has been in a collision, contact a Peugeot Dealership to have the system checked.
