Diesel engine overhead valve, transverse layout. The gearbox is attached to the left side of the engine.
The drive of the camshaft installed in the cylinder head, the water pump and the high pressure fuel pump is carried out by a toothed belt from the crankshaft pulley.
The cylinder head is made of light alloy and bolted to the cylinder block. Steel valve guides are pressed into the cylinder head. An oil pan is attached to the bottom of the engine block. It drains the oil needed to lubricate and cool the engine.
The oil pump is driven by a separate circuit.
The camshaft cams are lubricated by splashing oil.
The crankshaft is 5-bearing, axial play is installed by thrust half rings on the 2nd main journal.
The cylinder block is cast iron, the cylinders are made directly in the block (sleeves not included). Thermal valve clearances are adjusted automatically using hydraulic tappets.
