TU3JP engine
Removing
Remove the right front wheel.
Remove the engine splash shield.
Pic. 3.31. Top location (1) and lower (2) alternator mounting bolts on TU3JP engine
On vehicles without power steering and air conditioning, loosen the top 1 (pic. 3.31) and the lower 2 alternator mounting bolts and rotate the alternator to the cylinder block, as a result of which the drive belt tension will loosen.
On vehicles with power steering and air conditioning, loosen the idler pulley center bolt.
Remove the accessory drive belt from the pulleys.
Tension setting and adjustment
Put the belt on the pulleys of the crankshaft and auxiliary units (alternator, power steering pump and air conditioning compressor).
On cars without power steering and air conditioning system, tilt the generator away from the cylinder block, adjust the belt tension and tighten the generator mounting bolts.
Pic. 3.32. Location of the accessory drive belt on the TU3JP engine with power steering and air conditioning system
On vehicles with power steering (pic. 3.32) and air conditioning system with a hex torque wrench, turn the tension roller to 45 Nm, while the belt tension should correspond to the required value. Without loosening the torque wrench, tighten the central bolt of the tension roller to 45 Nm.
Rotate the engine crankshaft two turns.
Using Tool 4122-T, measure the drive belt tension. If the tension is more than 150 arbitrary units, the belt is unusable. The minimum allowable belt tension is 62 arbitrary units.
Rotate the engine crankshaft three turns.
Check and adjust the amount of tension to obtain the required values.
Reinstall the engine mudguard and right front wheel.
Engine TU5JP4
Removing
Remove the right front wheel.
Remove the engine splash shield.
Pic. 3.33. Bottom bolt location (1) alternator mounts and bolts (2) belt tension adjustment on TU5JP4 engine
On vehicles without power steering and air conditioning, loosen the bottom bolt 1 (pic. 3.33) fastening the generator and, turning the adjusting bolt 2, loosen the belt tension.
Pic. 3.34. Bolt location (1) tensioner and bolt fasteners (2) belt tension adjustment on TU5JP4 engine with power steering and air conditioning system
On vehicles with power steering and air conditioning, loosen bolt 1 (pic. 3.34) and, turning bolt 2, loosen the belt tension.
Remove the accessory drive belt from the pulleys.
Tension setting and adjustment
Put the belt on the pulleys of the crankshaft and mounted units (alternator, power steering pump and air conditioning compressor).
On vehicles without power steering and air conditioning, by turning adjusting bolt 2 (see fig. 3.33), adjust the tension of the alternator drive belt, then tighten the lower bolt 1 for fastening the tension mechanism.
On vehicles with power steering and air conditioning, by turning adjusting bolt 2 (see fig. 3.34), adjust the tension of the drive belt of the mounted units, then tighten the bolt 1 of the generator.
Using tool S.0192, measure the drive belt tension.
Rotate the engine crankshaft three turns.
Check and adjust the amount of tension to obtain the required values.
Reinstall the engine mudguard and right front wheel.
