Cross section of the XUD 9 engine
The engines are four-stroke, four-cylinder, in-line. The engine mount is transverse in front of the vehicle with a rearward tilt of 30°.
The camshaft located in the cylinder head is driven by a toothed belt. These engines are water cooled.
