Front seat belt tension mechanism (Peugeot 406)

The system is designed to instantly remove any slack in the seat belt in the event of a frontal collision, thereby reducing the threat to the lives of front passengers. Each front seat is equipped with a belt tensioner system connected directly to the seat belt buckle. The belt tensioner is controlled by the airbag control unit. When the belt tensioner is activated, the fuel inside the tensioner cylinder is ignited, which causes the tensioner piston to move forward, removing slack in the seat belt. After the tension mechanism has been activated, it must be replaced. To prevent the tensioner from working when carrying out repairs on the vehicle, you must disconnect the battery and disconnect the electrical connector from the belt and airbag control panel.

Attention! Before performing any work on the seat belt, disconnect the negative terminal from the battery and wait at least 2 minutes. Next, remove the center console and disconnect the connector from the seat belt tension control unit.

Attention! Do not expose the tension mechanism to temperatures above 100°C.
