Removing
1. Remove the negative terminal from the battery.
2. Remove the steering wheel. On vehicles with an airbag, remove the contact from the top of the steering column.
3. On all models, remove the switch from the top of the steering column.
4. Open the immobilizer key block.
5. Rotate the clamp 90°and lower the fuse box cover.
6. Disconnect the electrical connector from the key block, unscrew the screws and remove the lower trim of the instrument panel.
7. Disconnect the connector from the ignition switch located on the ignition switch wires.
8. unscrew the bolt (indicated by an arrow) and remove the suspension mounting electrical wires to the steering column.
9. Lock the steering column by pressing the lock button on the base of the steering column shaft.
10. Using paint or a marker, apply alignment marks between the steering column universal joint and the intermediate shaft. Unscrew the clamp bolt (indicated by an arrow).
11. Unscrew the fastening bolts (indicated by arrows) the top of the steering column.
12. Slide the column up and remove it from the vehicle.
Examination
Check the condition of the steering column for damage and wear. Check the steering shaft play in the steering column bushings and the condition of the universal joints.
Installation
1. Before installing the steering column, remove the clamp bolt nut retainer (indicated by an arrow) and remove the old nut. Install a new nut in the retainer and install it with the retainer on the steering column.
2. Align the marks made before removal and install the steering column universal joint on the intermediate shaft.
3. Slide the steering column onto the intermediate shaft and install. Fix a steering column bolts, having tightened them the demanded moment.
4. Install the universal joint clamping bolt and tighten it to the specified torque.
5. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
