Removing
1. Raise the front of the car and secure it on stands. Remove the front wheels.
2. Remove the cable and heat shield from the top of the steering gear. If equipped, release the mounting bracket and disconnect the electrical connector from the steering gear housing.
3. Unscrew the nuts securing the ball joints of the steering rods to the steering knuckle and remove the ball joints from the steering knuckles.
4. Use paint or a marker to apply alignment marks to the intermediate shaft and steering gear. Unscrew the clamp bolt (1) and a nut. When installing, you must use a new nut (2 - electrical connector, 3 - pipes).
5. Using G-clamps, clamp the supply and return hoses to the power steering.
6. Remove the power steering supply and return pipe nuts from the steering gear.
7. Release the power steering tubes from the mounting brackets and move them away from the steering gear.
8. Remove the steering gear mounting bolts (indicated by arrows) and remove the gaskets located between the steering gear and the lower frame.
9. Remove the steering gear from the intermediate shaft and remove the steering gear from under the vehicle.
Repair
1. Check the steering gear for wear and damage. Check that the toothed rack moves freely for the entire stroke. Check the play between the steering gear and the rack. Check all hydraulic connections for leaks.
2. Repair of the steering mechanism must be carried out at the TO station. You can only replace the protective covers of the steering mechanism, ball joints of steering rods and steering rods on your own.
Installation
1. Install the steering gear in place, aligning the steering gear with the intermediate shaft, taking into account the previously made marks.
2. Insert shims between lower frame and steering gear. Insert the steering gear mounting bolts and tighten them to the required torque.
3. Connect the power steering pipes and tighten the union nuts to the specified torque. Fix the pipes with brackets and remove the clamps from the hoses.
4. Install the intermediate shaft clamp bolt and new nut. Tighten them to the required torque.
5. Install the tie rod ball joints into the steering knuckles and secure them with new nuts.
6. Connect the electrical connector and heat shield to the steering gear. Install wheels and lower vehicle.
7. Add fluid to the reservoir and bleed the air from the hydraulic system.
8. Check and, if necessary, adjust the wheel alignment.
