Examination
1. Power supply to the fan (am) cooling is supplied through the ignition switch and fuse. On gasoline engines without air conditioning, the fan is controlled by a temperature sensor installed on the left side of the radiator. On gasoline engines with air conditioning and all diesel engines, the fans are controlled by a sensor "Bitron".
2. The fan should turn on when the operating temperature of the engine is exceeded, i.e. a few minutes before the engine temperature indicator needle enters the red sector or before the engine coolant temperature alarm lamp comes on. If the fan does not turn on, remove the wires from the temperature sensor, connect them together and turn on the ignition. If the fan then starts working, the temperature sensor is probably out of order, which must be replaced.
3. If the fan still does not work, check if the voltage is applied to the temperature sensor. If there is no voltage at the temperature sensor, the wires may be damaged or the fuse may be blown. If voltage is applied, check the reliability of the connection to the ground of the second wire of the sensor. If the thermal sensor and wiring are in good condition, the fan motor may be damaged. The electric motor can be tested by applying voltage to it with additional wires from the battery.
Removing
1. Remove the radiator.
2. On air-conditioned models, unscrew the mounting screws, then remove the mounting bracket that secures the capacitor bank to the fan shroud. Move the capacitor bank to the side to expose the fan motor mounting nuts.
3. Remove the grille.
4. Unscrew bolts of fastening of a casing of the fan to the lock of a cowl. Disconnect the hood lock cable from the lock and remove it. Loosen the fastening nuts (indicated by arrows) and remove the fan motor from the casing.
5. If necessary, unscrew the fastening screw and remove the fan from the motor shaft.
Installation
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following points:
- before installation, check the condition of the fan casing;
- check the condition of the electrical wiring and its installation in the mounting brackets;
- install a radiator.
