Camshaft and crankshaft pulley fixing rods (1.8 and 2.0 liter engines)
1. Camshaft pulley fixing rods
2. Rods for fixing the crankshaft pulleys
1. Align the holes in the camshaft and crankshaft pulleys on all models. The holes are used to fix the crankshaft and camshaft and prevent the pistons from hitting the valves when the timing belt or cylinder head is reinstalled. The pulleys are fixed by installing the corresponding rods in the aligned holes.
2. Remove the toothed belt cover.
3. Raise the front of the car and remove the right wheel.
4. To access the pulley mounting bolt on the crankshaft, remove the protective cover from the wing. The crankshaft can only be rotated in the direction of its working rotation.
1.6 liter models
5. Turn the crankshaft until the hole in the camshaft pulley is aligned with the hole in the cylinder head. The holes align when the camshaft pulley hole is at the 8 o'clock position.
6. Install a 8 mm rod into the hole in the camshaft pulley (indicated by an arrow). In this case, the hole in the crankshaft pulley must be aligned with the hole in the engine block, into which it is also necessary to insert a rod with a diameter of 8 mm. It may be necessary to turn the crankshaft a little to install the rod in the crankshaft pulley.
7. Once the crankshaft pulley is secured with the pin, install a 9.5mm pin into the hole in the camshaft pulley.
8. The crankshaft and camshaft are now locked in a position that prevents them from rotating.
Models with an engine capacity of 1.8 and 2.0 liters
9. Turn the crankshaft pulley until the holes in the camshaft pulleys line up with the corresponding holes in the cylinder head. The holes are aligned when the intake camshaft pulley bore is at the 5 o'clock position and the exhaust camshaft pulley bore is at the 7 o'clock position when viewed from the right side of the engine.
10. After aligning the holes of the camshaft pulleys, insert a rod or bolt with a diameter of 6 mm into the crankshaft pulley. In some engines, the hole diameters can be changed, so it is necessary to choose a rod of such a diameter that it fits snugly into the hole.
11. After fixing the crankshaft with a pin, fix the camshaft pulleys with the appropriate pins (see fig. Camshaft and crankshaft pulley fixing rods (1.8 and 2.0 liter engines).
12. After installing the rods, the crankshaft and camshaft are fixed from turning.
