3. Check crankshaft end play.
4. Loosen and unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the front oil seal cover (from the toothed belt), together with gasket (The figure shows the removal of the front cover from the cylinder block on XU and XUD engines).
5. Remove the oil pump drive chain, slide the drive sprocket and gasket off the end of the crankshaft.
6. Remove the segment key and store it with the sprocket.
7. Label the main bearing caps from 1 to 5 (marking places are indicated by arrows). Cover No. 1 is located on the flywheel side. Also pay attention to the set depth of the crankshaft rear seal.
8. On gasoline engines 1.6 and 1.8 liters, unscrew the two bolts (one on the front of the block and one on the back) securing the center bearing cap to the block.
9. On all engines, unscrew and remove the main bearing caps (the arrow shows the location of the thrust half ring). Also remove the thrust washers located on both sides of the No. 2 main bearing cap.
10. Remove the crankshaft and remove the crankshaft rear oil seal. The figure shows the removal of the crankshaft of XU and XUD engines.
