Gasoline engines
2. Remove the spark plugs and shut off the fuel system by removing the electrical connectors from the fuel injectors.
3. Install the spark plugs and connect the fuel system.
Diesel engines
4. To prevent starting the engine on 1.9 liter engines, disconnect the wire from the engine stop solenoid valve at the fuel pump, then crank the engine with the starter until the oil pressure warning light goes out. Reconnect the wire to the engine stop solenoid valve. On 2.1 liter engines, it is enough to remove the multifunction fuel injection system relay located in the ECU.
5. Fill the fuel system with fuel.
6. Press the accelerator pedal all the way down, turn the ignition key to position "M" and wait until the glow plug indicator lamp goes out.
All engines
7. Start the engine. It may take longer to start the engine than usual due to the shutdown of the fuel system.
8. With the engine idling, check for fuel, coolant, and oil leaks. At this stage of engine operation, smell and smoke can be observed from heated parts of the engine when oil burns out that got on the engine during assembly.
9. The engine should idle until the coolant is warm, which can be felt through the upper radiator hose. Then turn off the engine.
10. Check ignition timing (gasoline engines) or fuel pump installation (diesel engines).
11. Check oil and coolant levels.
12. On diesel engines with a volume of 2.1 liters, after the engine has cooled down, it is necessary to re-tighten the cylinder head bolts.
13. When installing new pistons, rings or crankshaft bearings in the engine, the engine must be run in during the first 800 km. Do not operate the engine at wide open throttle or under heavy load at low engine speeds. It is recommended to change the oil and oil filter at the end of the break-in period.
