Wheel speed sensors (ABS sensors) — removal and installation (Peugeot 605)

ABS sensors (see illustration 12.0) transmit information about the speed of rotation of the wheels to the engine control unit. Sensors receive information about the number of revolutions of the wheel by induction from the gears (see illustration 12.0a).





Wheel speed sensors operate independently of each other and continuously monitor the wheel speed «his» wheels, registering the signal coming from the corresponding gear.

Front wheel speed sensor

Removing

1. Disconnect the wire terminal «masses» (-) from the negative pole of the battery

2. Loosen bolt 1 and carefully remove sensor 2 (see illustration).

Installation

3. Make sure that contact surfaces A and B of the sensor are clean and dry (see illustration).



4. Install the front wheel speed sensor in its seat.

5. Tighten bolt 1 (see illustration 12.2) with a force of 10 Nm, having previously lubricated the bolt with Threadlock Loctite sealant.

Rear wheel speed sensor

Removing

6. Disconnect the wire terminal «masses» (-) from the negative pole of the battery.

7. Loosen bolt 1 and carefully remove sensor 2 (see illustration).

Installation

8. Make sure that contact surfaces A and B of the sensor are clean and dry (see illustration).



9. Install the front wheel speed sensor in its seat.

10. Tighten bolt 1 (see illustration 12.7) with a force of 10 Nm, having previously lubricated the bolt with Threadlock Loctite sealant.
