Attention! Brake fluid is poisonous and must never be sucked out by mouth through a hose. If brake fluid comes into contact with the skin, immediately rinse the area thoroughly with water; If brake fluid gets into your eyes, seek medical attention immediately.
Some types of brake fluid are flammable.
Brake fluid is corrosive, so it must not come into contact with car paint. If brake fluid comes into contact with a painted surface, wipe it off immediately and wash the surface with plenty of water.
Brake fluid is hygroscopic, i.e. it absorbs moisture from the air, so store liquid only in sealed containers.
Brake fluid must not come into contact with petroleum products. Even small impurities of petroleum products make the brake fluid unusable or lead to failure of the brake system.
Brake fluid that has already been used once cannot be refilled. Always fill with fresh brake fluid.
After each repair, during which the brake system was opened, it should be pumped to remove trapped air. The presence of air in the system indicates «falling through» brake pedal.
Bleeding the brake system can be done manually or with a special tool.
If the vehicle is equipped with ABS. then when pumping the system in the workshop, an appropriate device is used. Therefore, bleeding the brake system of a car with ABS on your own is allowed only with certain reservations. The first thing to do before bleeding the ABS brake system is to disconnect the battery.
Attention! Components of the ABS hydraulic block (valves, pump, etc.) must be pumped in the workshop using a special device.
1. Place the vehicle on a level surface, block the wheels.
2. Make sure all piping and hoses are securely connected and bleeders are closed. Clean the area around the bleeders and brake fluid reservoir cap.
3. If only one wheel cylinder or caliper has been opened, it is enough to bleed the air from the corresponding brake circuit. Pumping can be started from the rear, and then move on to the front wheels. However, it is recommended that you follow the vehicle manufacturer's instructions for bleeding the brake system. The manufacturer offers the following bleeding sequence:
- A) brake mechanism of the rear right wheel;
- b) rear left wheel brake;
- V) brake mechanism of the front right wheel;
- G) front left wheel brake.
Pumping by hand
4. Remove the protective cap from the appropriate bleeder port and put a transparent hose over the port. Dip the free end of the hose into a container half full of brake fluid.
5. Have an assistant depress the brake pedal to pressurize the system.
6. Check the brake fluid level in the expansion tank - it should always be above the minimum mark.
7. Loosen the bleed screw and let the fluid drain into a container.
8. When there are no air bubbles in the fluid flowing out, close the bleed valve, then ask the assistant to slowly release the brake pedal.
9. Repeat the bleed procedure for the rest of the brakes following the bleed sequence above until all air has been purged from the system. Upon completion of pumping, the brake pedal should become elastic and move smoothly, without «failures». Repeat the pumping procedure if necessary.
Attention! When bleeding the brake system, it is necessary to constantly monitor the level of brake fluid in the expansion tank so that it does not empty and air does not enter the system again. Never fill in a tank the brake liquid merged at prorolling. Also, do not fill in brake fluid that has been stored for a long time in an unclosed container.
Pumping with a special tool
10. Connect a hose of the special adaptation for prorolling to the main brake cylinder.
11. Pressurize the system to 2 bar.
12. Attach the clear hose to the bleeder port. Dip the free end of the clear hose into a container half full of brake fluid.
13. Loosen the bleed screw and depress the brake pedal 5 times to let the fluid flow into the container
14. When there are no air bubbles in the fluid flowing out, close the bleed valve, remove the special tool.
15. Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir (it must be between the maximum and minimum marks on the tank).
16. If necessary, repeat the bleeding procedure.
