The battery charging indicator does not light up when the ignition is on
Battery low
- Charge your battery
The fastening of the wire terminals on the battery is loose or the terminals are rusted
- Check the wires, clean the terminals and tighten the bolt
Loose fastening of the wire terminal on the generator or the terminals are rusted
- Check the wires, clean the terminals and tighten the nuts
Battery charging warning light burned out
- Replace light bulb
Faulty voltage regulator
- Check regulator. Replace if necessary
Open circuit between alternator, ignition switch and battery charging warning light
- Check the power supply with an ohmmeter, referring to the wiring diagram. Repair broken wire if necessary
The carbon brushes do not touch the slip ring
- Check the ease of movement of the brushes in the holder, as well as the residual length of the brushes. Replace brushes if necessary
The battery charging warning light does not go out when the engine speed increases
The ribbed belt is loose or slipping
- Check the condition of the ribbed belt and tensioner. Replace belt if necessary
Overrunning clutch defective (only cars with turbocharger)
- Remove the generator and turn the generator drive shaft to the left. If at the same time the belt pulley does not rotate at the same time, then, as a rule, the overrunning clutch is faulty
Faulty voltage regulator/generator
- Disconnect the wire from the DT terminal and turn on the ignition. If the signal light does not light up, then, as a rule, the voltage regulator or generator is faulty
Wear of the carbon brushes of the voltage regulator
- Examine the carbon brushes. Replace if necessary
Faulty regulator
- Check regulator and replace if necessary
Faulty generator
- Check alternator and replace if necessary
Broken wire between generator and regulator
- Disconnect the blue insulated wire from the T32a/box 12 plug on the back of the instrument panel. Switch on the ignition. If the signal lamp does not light up, then the wire at the D+ terminal is shorted to «mass» (-). Replace wiring harness
Faulty instrument panel
- If, after disconnecting the wire with blue insulation from the T32a plug, when the ignition is turned on, the signal light comes on, then, as a rule, the instrument panel is faulty
