1. Check the ignition system, fuel system and lambda probe function and make sure they are in good condition.
2. Replace the air filter element when it is due to be replaced.
3. Check that the exhaust system is tight.
Due to the fact that cars are equipped with different catalysts, when ordering a new one, it is necessary to indicate the engine number and vehicle identification number.
When servicing vehicles with a catalytic converter, some precautions should be observed:
- A) Do not park the vehicle with the engine running on flammable surfaces. The catalyst is at high temperature and this coating may ignite.
- b) Do not pour excess oil into the crankcase. Excess engine oil will enter the exhaust system and consequently the catalytic converter, causing catalytic converter damage. This is especially true for vehicles with gasoline engines.
- V) Keep an eye on the amount of fuel in the tank and do not allow the fuel tank to be completely empty.
- G) Do not overheat the catalyst. A defective catalytic converter can cause it to overheat.
- d) Monitor the condition and performance of the fuel injection and ignition systems. The engine should be stopped immediately if misfiring occurs (e.g. engine «shoots»).
When forced to start the engine of a car with a catalyst using the towing method, it is recommended to adhere to the minimum towing distance. Otherwise, a sudden start of the engine may damage the catalytic converter.
