Gas turbine supercharger (Peugeot Eurovans 806)

If the effective power of the engine decreases, for example, it does not provide acceleration to maximum speed, then the reason for this may be a malfunction of the gas turbine supercharger. In this case, the supercharger should be replaced with a new one, because it cannot be repaired even in a workshop. Impeccable operation of the supercharger is only possible if the seals on the inlet and outlet sides are intact. Therefore, if there is a suspicion regarding the supercharger, then first of all, its tightness should be checked.

1. Check the condition of the air hose between the supercharger and the intake manifold, as well as the hose from the intake manifold to the fuel pump and make sure that they are not torn or cracked. It is not excluded that the fastening of the hoses could loosen and they «suck» air.

2. Check the intake manifold gasket on the cylinder head. Air suction can also occur here. The intake manifold mounting flanges may not be tight either.

3. Check the exhaust manifold gasket on the cylinder head and between the exhaust manifold and supercharger.

To check the boost pressure, a special pressure gauge is required, and the check itself should be entrusted to a workshop. If the boost pressure is too high and the hose that holds the boost pressure regulator is not clogged, the turbocharger will most likely need to be replaced.

If the boost pressure is low, then the cause may be a malfunction of the boost pressure valve.

If the exhaust gases have a different color than usual, then this is the result of a malfunction in the fuel injection system. It is recommended to contact the workshop immediately.

After a long trip, it is recommended not to turn off the engine immediately, but to let it idle for a while. This is necessary for the following reason. If a very hot engine is stopped immediately, the turbocharger shaft bearing can become hot enough to burn out the bearing grease. And if this happens again, then the turbocharger shaft will jam.

The turbocharger is very sensitive to dirt and foreign particles. Therefore, it is recommended to monitor the condition of the supercharger and keep it clean.
