When ordering spare parts, always give as much information as possible. Specify the car model, year of manufacture, vehicle identification number (VIN) and engine number.
Vehicle identification number (chassis number) embossed on the body, along the upper edge of the right fender, and can be seen with the hood open.
Chassis nameplate from the manufacturer (which also contains the identification number of the vehicle) located on the right side of the engine compartment next to the suspension strut. Additional identification numbers with weights and paint codes are located on or next to this plate.
The engine number is located on the front of the cylinder block and can be found in the following locations:
- A) On gasoline engines - on the left side of the cylinder block. The number is stamped either directly on the block or on a plate that is riveted to the block.
- b) On diesel engines, the engine number is stamped on the base of the cylinder block on a flat surface to the right of the oil filter/oil cooler.
Note. The first part of the engine number indicates the engine code, eg KFW.
