- Switch off the ignition before connecting the auxiliary battery.
- Make sure all electrical equipment is turned off (lighting fixtures, heater, windshield wipers, etc.).
- Pay attention to all warnings on the battery case.
- Make sure the booster battery is rated for the same voltage as yours.
- If another vehicle's battery is used as the auxiliary battery, the vehicles MUST NOT touch each other.
- Make sure the shift lever is in neutral (or position P in the case of an automatic transmission).
«smoking» from another car can, of course, temporarily solve your problem. However, it is important to find out the cause that led to the discharge of the battery.
There may be three reasons for this:
1. The battery may have been discharged due to repeated attempts to start the engine or because the exterior lights were not turned off.
2. Faulty battery charging system (the generator drive belt is loose or broken, the generator wiring is faulty, or the generator itself is faulty).
3. The battery itself is faulty (low electrolyte density or damaged plates).
