Note. Before trying to locate a suspension or steering problem, make sure that the cause of the problem is not due to abnormal tire pressure, mismatched tires, or sticky brakes.
Pulling the car to the side
- Tire defect («Weekly checks»).
- Increased wear on suspension or steering components (chapter 1 and 10).
- Front wheel alignment incorrectly adjusted (chapter 10).
- Damage to steering or suspension components (chapter 1 and 10).
Wheel wobble or vibration
- Front wheel imbalance (vibration is felt mainly through the steering) («Weekly checks»).
- Rear wheel imbalance (vibration is felt throughout the car) («Weekly checks»).
- Wheels are damaged or deformed («Weekly checks»).
- Tire defect or damage («Weekly checks»).
- Worn hinges, bushings or suspension or steering components (chapter 1 and 10).
- Loose wheel nuts (chapter 10).
Excessive rocking in the longitudinal and (or) lateral directions when cornering or during braking
- Defective shock absorbers (chapter 1 and 10).
- Broken or loose springs and/or suspension components (chapter 1 and 10).
- Worn or broken anti-roll bar or its support (chapter 10).
«Yaw» vehicle or general instability
- Front wheel alignment incorrectly adjusted (chapter 10).
- Worn hinges, bushings or suspension or steering components (chapter 1 and 10).
- Wheel imbalance («Weekly checks»).
- Tire defect or damage («Weekly checks»).
- Loose wheel bolts (chapter 10).
- Defective shock absorbers (chapter 1 and 10).
Excessive «tough» steering
- Broken or incorrectly adjusted accessory drive belt (Chapter 1).
- Faulty power steering pump (chapter 10).
- Stuck ball joint of tie rod end or suspension ball joint (chapter 1 and 10).
- Front wheel alignment incorrectly adjusted (chapter 10).
- Deformation or damage to the steering gear or steering column (chapter 10).
Increased steering play
- Deterioration of the cardan joints of the steering column (chapter 10).
- Wear of spherical joints of tie rod ends (chapter 1 and 10).
- Steering gear wear (chapter 10).
- Worn hinges, bushings or suspension or steering components (chapter 1 and 10).
Power steering not working
- Drive belt broken or incorrectly adjusted (Chapter 1).
- Faulty power steering pump (chapter 10).
- Clogged power steering hoses (Chapter 1).
- Steering gear defective (chapter 10).
Increased tire wear
The appearance of a sharp edge on the tread
- Wheel alignment incorrectly adjusted (chapter 10).
Wear of the middle part of the tread
- Tire pressure higher than required («Weekly checks»).
Wear on the outer and inner edges of the tire
- Low tire pressure («Weekly checks»).
- Incorrect camber/caster angles (wear on one side only) (chapter 10).
- Worn hinges, bushings or suspension or steering components (Chapter 1 and 10).
- Turning at high speed.
- Accident damage.
Uneven tire wear
- Tires or wheels out of balance («Weekly checks»).
- Increased runout of wheels or tires (Chapter 1).
- Shock absorber wear (chapter 1 and 10).
- Tire defect («Weekly checks»).
