Attention! Do not change a wheel in situations where you risk being hit by another vehicle.
On busy roads, try to stop on the side of the road. Be careful when changing a wheel, be aware of passing traffic - it is very easy to get distracted and lose your vigilance when doing this work.
Preparation
- If a tire is punctured, stop the vehicle as quickly as the road conditions permit.
- Stop the vehicle on firm, level ground as far as possible, keeping it out of the way.
- Turn on the alarm if necessary
- If possible, display a warning triangle to warn other road users.
- Engage the parking brake and first gear or reverse gear.
- Block the wheel diagonally opposite the wheel being removed. Instead of the wheel chocks included in the car's tool kit, a couple of cobblestones will do.
- If the ground is soft, place a hardwood board under the sole of the jack.
Wheel replacement
1. On vans "jack" and the balloon key are stored behind the driver's seat...
2....and on «minivans» (Multispace and Combi) behind the cover on the back on the right side
3. Raise the floor covering at the rear of the luggage compartment and use the wheelbrace to lower the spare wheel holder
4. Unhook the holder from the lifting hook and slide the spare wheel out from under the vehicle. On «minivans» (Multispace and Combi) remove the wheel chock from the center of the spare wheel (on «vans» wheel chock stored behind the driver's seat)
5. Place the jack on a hard surface, positioning the head of the jack directly under the special reinforced place on the bottom trim flange intended for the installation of the jack («jacking point»). This place is marked with a triangle (marked with an arrow) on the bottom panel. Raise the jack using the wheelbrace as a handle and make sure that the jack head is firmly fixed against «jacking points». Place a wheel chock under the wheel diagonally opposite the wheel being removed
6. On models with steel rims, remove the wheel cap/hub cap (if applicable)
7. Loosen each wheel bolt half a turn using the wheelbrace before lifting the vehicle. On models with light alloy wheels, use a special adapter to unscrew the nuts
8. Turn the jack handle clockwise to raise the vehicle until the wheel is off the ground. Turn out bolts and remove a wheel from the car. Place it under the car next to the jack as a precaution in case the jack falls. Install the spare wheel, install the bolts and use the wheelbrace to lightly tighten them. Lower the vehicle and fully tighten the bolts in a criss-cross pattern
9. Tighten the bolts securely, working in a criss-cross pattern. Install wheel cap/hub cap (if applicable)
In conclusion...
- Remove wheel chocks/cobblestones.
- Put the jack and tools in their original place.
- Check the tire pressure on a newly installed tire. If the pressure is low or you don't have a pressure gauge with you, drive slowly to the garage or the nearest service station and inflate the tire to the correct level.
- Repair the damaged tire or wheel as soon as possible.
