Checking the covers of the leading semi-axes (Peugeot Partner I)

1 Raise the vehicle and securely support it under (see «Lifting and placing the car on supports»). In turn, turn the steering wheel fully to either side and slowly rotate each front wheel. Examine the rubber boots of the outer constant velocity joints, spreading their corrugations to reveal depressions (pic. 6.1). Check for cuts, cracks, or other damage that could cause grease to leak and water and sand to enter the joint. Also check the reliability of fastening and the condition of the clamps. Repeat these checks on the inner CV joints. If damage or deterioration is found, the covers should be replaced as described in chapter 8.



2. At the same time, check the general condition of the outer CV joints themselves, first holding the axle shaft and trying to rotate the wheel. Repeat this test on the inner joints, holding the joint and trying to rotate the axle shaft. Any noticeable movement is a sign of wear on the hinges, half shaft splines or loosening of the half shaft fastening nut.
