Removing
1. Remove the gearbox as described inchapter 7, then remove the clutch assembly as described in chapter 6.
2. Keep the flywheel from turning by blocking its ring gear (pic. 5.2). Alternatively, install and bolt a strip of metal between the flywheel and engine block/crankcase. Do not attempt to lock the flywheel using the crankshaft pulley locking tool described in paragraph 3.
3. Turn out bolts of fastening of a flywheel. Remove the flywheel from the end of the crankshaft. Don't let it fall, it's very heavy. If the dowel pin on the end of the crankshaft is not damaged, remove it and store it in a safe place along with the flywheel. Discard the flywheel mounting bolts; when installing, use new ones.
Inspection
4. Inspect the flywheel for nicks on the surface mating with the clutch disc, and for wear or chipping on the ring gear teeth. If the flywheel-clutch mating surface is scratched, the flywheel can be resurfaced, but replacement is preferred. Consult your Peugeot/Citroen dealer or engine rebuilder to find out if regrinding is possible. If the ring gear is worn or damaged, the flywheel must be replaced as it is not possible to replace the ring gear separately.
Installation
5. Clean the mating surfaces of the flywheel and crankshaft. Remove traces of locking compound from the threaded holes in the crankshaft. «Drive away» thread each hole with a tap of the correct size.
Advice. If the appropriate tap is not available, take one of the «old» flywheel mounting bolts, cut two grooves along the threaded shank of the bolt and, screwing / unscrewing the bolt, clean the threads from the locking compound.
6. If thread locking compound is not applied to the threads of the new flywheel mounting bolts, apply appropriate compound to the threads of each bolt.
7. Verify that the dowel pin is in place. Install the flywheel on the crankshaft, focusing on the dowel pin, and screw in new bolts.
8. Lock the flywheel using the method used for removal. Then, working in a criss-cross pattern, evenly and progressively tighten the bolts to the prescribed torque.
9. Reinstall the clutch assembly (see chapter 6). Remove the locking tool and install the gearbox as described in chapter 7.
